I don't just make beads.

I can feel the change ... can you ?

Yes .... morning mists and that unmistakable freshness in the morning. Autumn is coming.

I am always the first to admit that I am not a summer person. My favourite seasons are Autumn and Winter. I love being able to layer up and feel cosy.

A few years ago a lovely friend of mine gifted me an Ashton Rigid Heddle Loom. I've always loved working with fibres and yarn, so I wasn't at all surprised that I instantly fell for the process. I love the calming and repetitive process  of weaving.

So now, every year I weave a collection of scarves for the shop. Admittedly, I'm a bit late in starting my collection this year, but with our family health worries, I've just not been as focused as I could be.

But anyway ... I have made a start on my Autumn - Winter collection of scarves and jewellery. I hope to start making candle stock soon too. I just wish I had more days in the week to get it all done in time !

Autumn Update

Getting back to a new kind of normal

Over the last few months, I have started to find a new kind of normal. Mum is settled into her new residential home and we (as a family) have a regular schedule when it comes to visiting Mum.  She continues to deteriorate but at least she is safe and being looked after appropriately. The carers there are lovely .

I am mostly on top of orders, most of the time, but I do still have my moments. I've had a few issues lately with glass stocks and, unfortunately, I have had to remove some designs from sale because of colour inconsistencies from the supplier, which is SO frustrating as there is nothing I can do about it myself.

Anyway .... a huge thank you to everybody who has bought from me recently and a big hello to lots of new buyers.  I love the change in seasons as it motivates me to change my designs up a little and it's always fun to be able to make my fun seasonal designs again !

Anyway .. that's it for now. I need to go and get ready for work ... we have a heatwave at the moment and are seeing some of the hottest days so far this year ... how ridiculous is that ! Its September ! So another day in Mordor beckons for me . Roll on Autumn proper, hopefully by next week !

Have a great day folks .. bye for now

It never rains .....

Life has been quite the roller coaster since my last update and unfortunately, it has not been much fun.

Not long after my last update, my lovely Mum was admitted into A&E after a frighteningly rapid deterioration in her health.

We had been concerned for a while about her health, but Mum being the strong and independent lady that she was, she would not see a doctor.

The awful day came when we had to take her to A&E after a huge decline in her capacity. After a worrying stay in hospital she was diagnosed with alzheimer's disease.

We are still trying to process all that has happened over the past few months. We had to make the very sad decision to move Mum into residential care once she had been diagnosed. The Mum that I have known all my life is no longer there. I am learning that you lose someone twice over to this awful disease. It is utterly heartbreaking.

Throughout this horrific time, I have to say that the kindness and support of my customers has floored me. I have been so far behind with making and shipping orders out during this time and everybody has been so understanding. I cannot thank you enough. I know how annoying and inconvenient it can be when your goods don't arrive in good time.

Things have settled down somewhat now though, but I do still find myself a bit distracted and distant. I am working through this slowly but surely and I am pretty much back to normal at work.

Anyway ... I am rambling. To summarise ...

I've had an awful time of it lately.

My lovely customers have made things much easier to bear.

I am *almost* back up to speed again.

I can't thank you all enough.

Love and best wishes,

February 2023

Back to work after taking a month off

Well I can't believe its February already !

Unfortunately, half of my time off was spent feeling ill with the flu, so I only got a couple of my planned shop jobs done, but hey ho ... I've got some new jewellery in the shop and a brand new rug down in the customer area, giving it a nice lift.

I'm already run off my feet with bead orders, both on Etsy and through Facebook shows.  Having Spring just around the corner is inspiring me to break out the pastels and the florals again. I am really loving the shift away from winter designs. It feels as though I've been making them FOREVER !!

Oh and in other news .... WE HAVE A NEW PUPPY !!!!!!

She is super adorable. She is so cute and friendly it's amazing ! I'm getting a doggy gate fitted to the workshop soon too, so she will be able to visit the shop and meet lots of lovely customers. I hope she makes them smile as much as she does, me !

I can't believe we're into Autumn already !

I am so terribly BAD at remembering to update my blog. I've tried many blogs over the years and I've never yet managed to keep one up to date !

Anyway ... my blog page may often look neglected, but you only have to click on the 'Shop on Etsy' tab to see that I have, in fact, been incredibly busy.

As you can see from these photos, I am in the throes of making Halloween themed beads for all of your fun jewellery makes. I've also started making my Christmas beads ! Yes ! Please don't sigh and shake your head at me, hehe .... Us bead makers make components for jewellery makers, so that does mean that we have to create our beads in plenty of time for the jewellery artists to work their magic, in time for the Christmas shopping season.

I'm really enjoying making my little snowmen beads !

They're making their appearance on Etsy now that the nights are starting to draw in.

I feel like I've wasted a whole month !

After working almost 24/7 between September and Christmas, I told myself that I needed some down time and I'd keep the shop closed during January.

Whilst things have been delayed a little and I still need to buy some timber to make a few new shelves with and a few other bits, but ......... I will  ready to welcome my first customers of 2022 !
